Maureen has been involved in crafting her entire life. As a young child her mother taught her to knit and crochet and in her early twenties she was winning awards for her knitting at the Pacific National Exhibition. She had always wanted to learn to quilt and was inspired by her Aunt who did immaculate hand piecing and quilting. When Maureen had to take time off work in 2004 for cancer treatments she decided this was her time to learn to quilt. Her first quilt was a paper pieced poinsettia pattern and she has never looked back. Paper piecing has become her passion and she is always interested to learn new techniques and to share these techniques with other quilters. Maureen has had numerous teaching roles in her life, both as a nurse and related to the crafts she has been involved with. How many other people can say that they taught their boss decorative ceramics?

When she took an early retirement from Health Care Administration in 2009 she became one of the first Certified Instructors for Quiltworx and has been teaching foundation paper piecing on a regular basis ever since. She loves working with aspiring quilters and seeing the beautiful quilts that they create. For years Maureen had been attracted to the vibrant rainbow BeColourful patterns and has more recently come to appreciate the many beautiful quilt designs created by Jacqueline de Jonge. In early 2017 Maureen was very excited to spend ten days learning from Jacqueline between the two BeColourful retreats that she attended that spring. Maureen finished five BeColourful quilts in 2017 and continues to make more, always having at least two BeColourful quilts on the go at a time. She was deeply honoured when Jacqueline asked her to become an Authorized Teacher for BeColourful in 2018 and is looking forward to teaching Jacqueline’s techniques to quilters across Canada. Maureen belongs to the Canadian Quilters’ Assocation (CQA), the American Quilter’s Society (AQS), the Fraser Valley Quilter’s Guild and the Chilliwack Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Maureen teaches across British Columbia and Alberta and is willing to teach anywhere in Canada. Due to her busy travel schedule the best way to contact Maureen is by e-mail at [email protected]
