About the website
Be surprised and inspired by our website. Each button reveals a world of color and challenge. We would like to take you into the colorful world of BeColourful and entice you to our pages full of information and to tempt you with our beautiful quilt collections.
We have divided the quilt collections into 2 groups: the Rainbow Collection and Jacqueline's Collection. The Rainbow designs are made with the 24 colors of Jacqueline's beautiful rainbow collection fabrics from Anthology Fabrics. In Jacqueline's Collection you'll find all the designs that Jacqueline made from batiks she specially designs for Anthology Fabrics. How about the "New Releases" button? Each year in September/October we present our new collection of stunning new quilts. Just take a look and you'll find yourself drooling over your computer ;). Or perhaps the "Download" button, brandnew with some great downloads you may print out and use. There are so many more buttons to explore. |
Our aim is to inspire you! We have therefore displayed the quilts in alternative fabrics. Like "Happiness 2.0," for example. We have made her in 10 different colors. And how about the table runner 'The Four Seasons' that we designed for 2022. Made in 4 beautiful colors, one for each season. And we have made two more: the sweet 'Summer Lemonade' and a sparkling Christmas edition: 'December Joy'.
We want to challenge you to make our designs in the colors that you like, which may be completely different from the original. We are looking forward to see your creations. We love receiving your pictures, comments and "making of" stories for our Facebook page, or to add to the "Made by you" section on this website. |
How it all started
This pattern that made the start of Be Colourful as Pattern Company: 'Joy'. In 2003, when I had a burn out, I was working on a special design with lots of colors and the famous multi sunflower fabric from Hoffman California.
When the quilt was finished our father insisted on entering the Open European Quilt Championship, as he was sure that this quilt was so special and unique. Finally, I agreed and sent the quilt to the OEQC organization. Guess what? I won the Color Trophy that year. And when the quilt was displayed there, people started to ask: “Is there a pattern available??” And this is where it all started! While the original (and very popular) pattern, where you have to trace all the pattern parts, is no longer available, Jacqueline had the idea to release the pattern again, as 'Brilliant Beauties of Joy': The quilts has become slightly larger, all the foundation papers comes with the pattern, the “Paint by number” technique for all the foundation points and the rainbow border and detailed fabric and cutting instructions. So she made new drawings and made the quilt again, now with a black background, the sunflower fabric is now a part of our fabric collection. |
Classes
|
Besides making beautiful quilt designs, Jacqueline also loves to spread her love for quilting by teaching you how to make your own BeColourful quilt in one of her classes. In her classes she shares her knowledge and provides tips and tricks to improve your paper piecing techniques. After a class you will see that the BeColourful patterns are actually not that hard, once you got the right tools! Jacqueline has already taught in many stores and quilt guilds throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
See the classes page for more her teaching schedule, or email us at [email protected]. We are happy to provide you with more information to invite Jacqueline as a teacher. Will your store or quilt guild be the next to welcome Jacqueline? |
From 'Catch Me...if you can' to 'Catch Me' in beautiful pastels
For 2024, we also came up with something very exciting: Redesigning “Catch Me... If You Can'. This design has been out of print for a long time and it was never our intention to redesign it. It is a particularly complicated design and it is a intricate one with many curves, 21 different stars and numerous difficulties.
So we thought there was no more interest in this, but how wrong we were. Over the past year there have been more and more requests to please reissue this design anyway. And so we did. There was also a beautiful batik pastel collection, BeColourful Blush, which would be perfect for this design. And we have a great Facebook group: 'The Catch Me Club' for you to follow or join! |
Wish Upon a Star/Purple Sunrise - Block of the Month 2021/2022
During 2021, we thought it would be fun to start a new Block of the Month again. The last one, already two years ago, had proven to be a great success so hence we thought it would be fun to design a spectacular new Block of the Month from the latest fabric collection. And because we thought that everyone likes different colors, we also made the design in two different versions: 'Wish Upon a Star' in green and dark red and 'Purple Sunrise' in purple and orange.
Jacqueline always wanted to make a feathered star and with this in mind she designed this beautiful quilt. Our Block of the Month works in the same way we came up with for 'Dream Flight': You buy the pattern at once, where the subdivision into the different months can be found in the instruction booklet. You can of course make the pattern all at once, but you can also work in a group, with friends or in a quilt bee. With your quilt guild or if your favorite store offers sit-and-sew sessions, join them. But you can also enjoy working on this beautiful design at your own pace. Whatever you want. We offer enough support for you by having an extensive page with supporting tutorials and clear pictures of the design. In addition, we have created a special Facebook group where you can always go with your questions, photos and anything else you want to share about 'Wish Upon a Star' or 'Purple Sunrise'. We hope you enjoy this design and look forward to seeing your version of 'Wish Upon a Star' and 'Purple Sunrise'. |
Dream Flight - Block of the Month - 2019/2020
We choose this pattern for our exciting Block of the Month for 2019/2020. Don't let the 5* scares you off! We'll guide through this glorious pattern step by step. And with a supporting Facebook group, specially for "Dream Flight" you will enjoy making this fabulous quilt. You can sign up for our Block of the Month (BOM) program at your favorite or local quilt shop who offers our ‘Dream Flight’ BOM or with one of our Authorized Teachers who are offering the program. Some stores will offer sit-and-sew sessions, but our BOM is designed to allow you to work independently and at your own pace. |
The Happiness 2.0 Project
Happiness 2.0 is the technical quilt for BeColourful. Happiness 2.0 is a small wall hanging of 38” x 38” and features all of the BeColourful paper piecing techniques. We have combined 13 different techniques in this quilt: Paper piecing, the star, spikes, inset circles, freezer paper techniques, second seam allowance, how to get a perfect corner, sashing, flying geese, nesting seams, how to pin baste, how to ease fabrics and how to use fabrics sparingly. The Happiness quilt is a great project to try out all these techniques. When you've finished this beautiful small wall hanging you will be able to make all of Jacqueline's designs. |
Craftsy Class: 'Perfect Points with paper piecing'Have you always wanted to take one of Jacqueline's classes, but did you never get the chance because you were too busy, or she just wasn't in your area? Introduction to the wonderful world of BeColourful
In October 2019 Jacqueline was invited to teach by Equilter.com. An invitation that Jacqueline gladly accepted. During her stay Luana Rubin offered to record 2 interviews with Jacqueline.
This was a wonderful opportunity for Jacqueline to share her passion. In these two interviews, Jacqueline talks about her new collection, the design process, the use of colour and the use of the Swarovski crystals. Jacqueline also explains what it's like to travel and teach and explains what's so special about the latest design: Happiness 2.0 and how that can change your way of paper piecing.
